At Tŷ Green Ltd., our journey began with a simple yet profound idea: to create beautiful, sustainable, and high-quality living spaces that harmonise with nature and are healthy to occupy. Founded by Spence Gadsby, a qualified architect with a specialisation in sustainable design and construction. Spence studied at the Centre for Alternative Technology and is a certified Passivhaus designer. With many years of both on-site and off-site carpentry experience, Spence brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to every project.
Our company is rooted in a deep commitment to the environment and a passion for craftsmanship. Based just outside of Newport, we take pride in using locally sourced materials and prioritising eco-friendly construction methods.
Our Story
At Tŷ Green Ltd., our journey is rooted in sustainability and uncompromising quality. Specialising in crafting shepherd huts, garden rooms, and bespoke designs, each project we undertake is not just a construction but a manifestation of our core values. We are driven by the belief that spaces should not only fulfil the practical needs of our clients but also contribute positively to their health and the planet.
From the outset, our approach is defined by the meticulous selection of materials sourced from reputable UK-based suppliers. These materials, ranging from locally grown timber to eco-friendly insulation like sheep wool and wood fibre board, ensure that every structure we create is both environmentally sound and aesthetically pleasing.
Craftsmanship lies at the heart of our process. Collaborating with skilled artisans and craftsmen across the country, we integrate their expertise to imbue each unit with unique and beautiful features. This collaboration not only enhances the functionality and appeal of our spaces but also supports local economies and promotes traditional craftsmanship.
Amidst the creative process stands Dusty, our loyal canine companion. Dusty brings warmth and companionship to our workshop, embodying the spirit of dedication and passion that defines our work.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Tŷ Green Ltd. We understand the significant impact that construction can have on the environment, and we are dedicated to minimizing this impact through responsible practices. Here’s how we incorporate sustainability into our work:
-
Locally Sourced Materials: We prioritise using materials that are grown and manufactured in the UK. This not only supports local economies but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
-
Natural and Recyclable Materials: We carefully select natural materials that can be easily recycled or repurposed at the end of their life cycle. By avoiding plastics and off-gassing chemicals, we create healthier living spaces for our clients and the environment.
-
Efficient Insulation: Our buildings are well-insulated with natural materials such as sheep wool and wood fibre board. This enhances energy efficiency, keeping spaces warm in the winter and cool in the summer, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling.
-
Airtight Construction: We build our structures to be highly airtight, which significantly improves their energy efficiency. This approach helps to reduce energy consumption and lower carbon emissions. To keep the internal space healthy each units comes with a Mechanical Ventilation with heat recover unit (MVHR) which constantly runs in the background maintaining fresh and healthy air.
-
Renewable Energy: Our huts are designed to run entirely on electric power, which can be sourced from renewable energy. This aligns with our commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting cleaner energy solutions.
By choosing Tŷ Green Ltd., you are not only investing in a high-quality and beautiful living space but also supporting a business that is dedicated to protecting our planet. We believe that sustainable living is not just a choice but a responsibility, and we are proud to lead by example in the construction industry.
